What happens in Ukraine over the next months will be decisive – Pentagon
Ukraine has been resisting the invaders of Russia for almost a year at the cost of colossal efforts – the lives and health of our best sons and daughters country. However, the Pentagon predicts that the decisive events of this war are yet to come.
Celeste Wallander, Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, stated this during a hearing in the US Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, reports Channel 24.
The coming months may be decisive
Celesta Wallander noted that now the United States is concentrating on helping Ukraine to protect its people and territories. At the same time, the assistant to the head of the Pentagon stressed that the decisive events of this war could take place in the near future.
What happens over the next few months could be decisive. And we are focusing on providing Ukraine with the military assets it needs to defend its people and territory. – said Vollander.
The official also noted that now Russia is convinced that the United States and allies are serious about supporting Ukraine in the long term.
Separately, Vollander stressed that the United States has not recorded any evidence that weapons provided to Ukraine are being transported outside its borders.
Ukraine may not receive American tanks for the spring counteroffensive
At the same hearing, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said the Abrams tanks the US is providing to Ukraine are very sophisticated. Despite the fact that President Joe Biden announced on January 25 that the equipment will be provided to Ukraine, preparations for their shipment may take time. Therefore, the official noted that Ukraine may not receive these tanks before the spring counteroffensive.
At the same time, Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said during a briefing that Washington plans to transfer improved M1A2 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, which there are no warehouses. Tank modifications are assembled at the General Dynamics plant in Ohio. This plant can produce 12 tanks a month, but the line is now full of new tank orders for Taiwan and Poland. Therefore, the question of the timing of the manufacture of tanks for Ukraine is still open. However, while the plant assembles the tanks, the United States will conduct exercises of the Ukrainian military.
In addition, polatico, citing sources, said that the tanks would arrive in Ukraine without secret depleted uranium armor, since US law prohibits the provision of weapons for border with secret technologies, as they could fall into enemy hands. It is worth noting that this is not the first time that the United States seizes secret weapons before being sent to Ukraine. Therefore, this practice is not new.
