What is the situation in Ukraine with gas and coal reserves: will they be enough for the winter and what does it depend on

Will Ukraine have enough gas for the heating season/Public

Ukraine has enough gas and coal reserves to meet its needs this heating season. However, the complexities lie elsewhere – if the Russian Gazprom completely stops gas transit through the Ukrainian GTS, the winter will be difficult for both Ukraine and Europe.

An expert from the Institute of Economic Strategies Yury Korolchuk spoke about what the heating season could be like during the telethon, channel 24 reports.

In terms of gas, our situation is more or less good. Unlike Europe, because there is a general panic there, we have our own booty. We are pumping 12 billion cubic meters of gas into the underground storage,” Yury Korolchuk noted.

There will be problems if Gazprom suspends transit to Europe

The expert clarified that the government plans to pump even about 15 billion cubic meters of which will be enough, but only on the condition that Gazprom does not reduce transit through the Ukrainian GTS.

This is enough for us, but with the preservation and continuation of the transit of Russian gas to Europe. That is, the key problem is that if the transit of Russian gas stops, then it will be very difficult for us,” Korolchuk explained.

According to him, in this case, the government’s forecasts for forced gas savings will come true. Consequently, the houses will be 16 – 17 degrees Celsius in winter. As for private houses, gas supply may be on duty.
