WHO announces possible surge of COVID-19 in Europe in early 2021

The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe has warned of the risk of an outbreak of COVID-19 coronavirus infection in the region if preventive measures are not followed.

Experts noted that during the New Year holidays across Europe there is a sharp rise in the number of gatherings of people of all ages, including family members, religious groups and friends.

“Despite some small progress, transmission of COVID-19 in the European Region is widespread and intense. There is a high risk of a further surge in the first weeks and months of 2021, ”the report said.

The WHO recalled that the situation with coronavirus in Europe depends on the decisions of each person.

“Do not underestimate the importance of your decisions and strengths – personal, family or community – on the situation with the further development of the pandemic,” added the organization.

On November 30, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that for the first time since September, a decrease in the number of new cases of COVID-19 in a week was recorded in the world.
