WHO to resume investigation into the origin of coronavirus

The World Health Organization (WHO) will convene a scientific advisory team on the origin of new pathogens to reopen its investigation into the origins of the coronavirus. Reported by The Wall Street Journal.

The team of about 20 will include laboratory safety and biosecurity specialists, geneticists and animal disease experts. Their tasks will include finding new evidence in China and other countries. Scientists will also have to determine if COVID-19 could appear in the laboratory.

In addition, in the future, the scientific advisory group will help WHO to identify human activities that increase the risk of new diseases.

Earlier, China called on WHO to check US laboratories to find the origins of the pandemic. Chen Xu, China's permanent representative to the UN headquarters in Geneva, said that the hypothesis that the virus entered the human population as a result of a leak from the Wuhan Institute of Virology is unlikely.
