Will Ukraine receive Leopard 2 tanks from Poland: the prime minister explained the country's position
Poland may transfer Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that this is necessary.
The information that the Polish government is considering Ukraine's request for the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to it appeared on Friday, January 6th.
Will Poland transfer Leopard 2 tanks
Morawiecki said that, together with Polish President Andrzej Duda, negotiations are underway to create a coalition to transfer such heavy equipment as Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
On our own, like Poland, without a broader coalition, we do not intend to transfer these tanks,” the prime minister added.
According to the head of the Polish Institute of International Relations, Slawomir Debsky, the transfer of Western tanks to Ukraine is a matter of time – all Leopard 2s that the Polish army has at its disposal will sooner or later be transferred to Ukraine.
He added that the decision on when and how many tanks will go to Ukraine will depend on how soon the Americans and Koreans replenish the Polish arsenal with M1 Abrams and K2 Black Panther tanks.
Ukraine can get more tanks
Finland is considering the transfer of German Leopard 2 to Ukraine, said the head of the Defense Committee Antti Hakkyanen. At the same time, he named an important condition – it is necessary that other states of Europe do this.
If Europe starts giving Ukraine an inch wider tanks, Finland should be involved. Of course, with our small contribution, because our own defense capability is always a priority for us as a border country with Russia,” he stressed.
Note! Now there are more than 240 Leopard tanks in Poland. This is enough for two tank brigades.
