In Mexico City, aggressive women marched, armed with chains, hammers and Molotov cocktails. In the clashes, 37 people were injured, 27 of whom were police officers. Four of them required hospitalization.
“Our patience has run out. Because there are women who have been raped. And they are imprisoned for illegal abortions, although they simply have no other choice. And in general, no one should dictate what to do with our body. We are against any taboos for future generations, ”said the participant of the action.
Women in Colombia also advocate safe and legal abortion. They marched through the center of Bogota. In the country, termination of pregnancy is allowed only in cases of rape, risk to the mother's life or birth defects. In neighboring Peru, the situation is tougher. In 2015, Congress voted against a bill that allowed pregnant rape victims to have abortions.
In the meantime, thousands of women in Latin America die each year from illegal abortions, while teenage pregnancies continue to grow.
