World Cup qualification: Serbia, Russia and Norway with mandatory victories

Serbia, Russia and Norway have made mandatory victories in the race for a starting place at the 2022 World Cup finals. The Serbs overtook Portugal with the same number of points in their group's table after a 4-1 home win against Luxembourg. The Russians prevailed on Cyprus 2-0 and thus presented in a duel with Croatia. The Norwegians also took their third win in their fifth qualifying appearance. Erling Haaland and Co. beat Latvia 2-0 away.

Aleksandar Mitrovic scored twice for the Serbs. Portugal were free of play on Saturday and played a friendly against World Cup hosts Qatar. Next Tuesday the Iberians will be visiting Azerbaijan, Serbia will travel to Ireland.

Goals for Haaland and Lovric

Haaland shot his eleven ahead with a foul penalty (20th) in Riga, Mohamed Elyounoussi (66th) made the decision. Turkey then had the chance again to advance to first place in the group with a win against football dwarf Gibraltar.

Slovenia beat Malta 1-0 in the group with Russia and Croatia. Former Austrian youth team player Sandi Lovric scored with a penalty (45th) just before the break.
