Xiaomi has banned the installation of Google services on Chinese smartphones with MIUI shell

Recently, a new smartphone Xiaomi Redmi K40 Gaming Edition went on sale in China. It turned out that this model does not officially support the installation of Google Mobile Services (GMS).

As Gizmochina clarifies, back in February, Xiaomi confirmed that it would no longer include the Google Services Framework in future smartphones running the Chinese MIUI firmware. The MIUI 12.5 update will also remove GMS support from older models. The company said the move would reduce the operating system's footprint.

Since the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition comes with MIUI 12.5 out of the box, it no longer has the software required for Google services. Users cannot install GMS from Mi App store on this phone. It is possible that in the future Xiaomi will once again add the Google Services Framework to its firmware.

Installing custom firmware with GMS should help to work around the problem.
