Young people and pregnant women are at risk for COVID-19
Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said that young people and pregnant women were at risk of contracting coronavirus. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
Until recently, doctors believed that older people were most susceptible to the severe course of the disease. However, recent studies have shown that the new strains are dangerous for both young people and pregnant women. Natalya Pshenichnaya, Deputy Director for Clinical and Analytical Work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, cited an example that a baby whose mother suffered COVID-19 in early pregnancy developed a severe eye defect. Scientists could not find another explanation for this phenomenon. Pshenichnaya clarified that after the mother is infected with COVID-19, the child develops a defect similar to if a woman contracted rubella.
In some cases, preterm labor may begin in pregnant women after an illness, which is why babies subsequently experience developmental delays. However, in this case, experts are not completely sure that the problem is directly related to the coronavirus.
Mikhail Murashko and Natalya Pshenichnaya emphasize that you need to get vaccinated against coronavirus so as not to risk your health and the health of your baby.
Earlier it was reported that the most optimal period for vaccination of pregnant women is the period from 22 weeks. However, it is best to do this during the planning phase.
