Zelensky answered whether security guarantees are needed even before meeting with Putin

Vladimir Zelensky/Office of the President

President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the process of dialogue with Russia should not be slowed down. This is how the head of state answered the question of whether security guarantees are needed even before the meeting with Russian President Putin.

Zelensky is not against a parallel process

Zelensky said that the harmonization of security guarantees and dialogue with the aggressor country are parallel processes. The president told the Indian media Republic Media Network about this.

I believe that this is a parallel process and there is no need to slow down the process of dialogue by any meetings or clear agreements, Zelensky answered the question, whether security guarantees are needed for a meeting with Putin.

At the same time, the head of state believes that it would be better to have clear agreements with security guarantors before meeting with Russia.

“Today we know that certain countries are ready to show us security guarantees. Before the meeting with Russia, it would be better to have clear agreements on our security guarantors and clear agreements on which specific countries are ready to take on certain responsibilities” , the President noted.

Zelensky does not want a meeting for the sake of a meeting

Zelensky argues that it is better to meet with Russia, having a so-called pool of agreements. The head of state said that he does not seek meetings for the sake of meetings.

Yes, I think it would be better to meet with the Russian Federation with the pool of these agreements, so that it would not just be a meeting for the sake of the meeting, but there were some specifics,” the president said.

He added that the Ukrainian side is ready for “all this to happen in a parallel format, so as not to wait that our meeting will be in 1 – 2 years”.

“We don't want the war to last so long,” Zelensky summed up.
