President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky presented the Order of the Golden Star to Paraska Demchuk, the mother of Oleksandr Matsiyevsky, who was shot by the Russian invaders after saying “Glory to Ukraine”.

Alexandra Matsievsky was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine. He voluntarily joined the territorial defense forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The hero went to war as a volunteer

Alexander Matsievsky was 42 years old. Before the full-scale invasion, he was an electrician in Kyiv, after February 24, he volunteered for the territorial defense of Nizhyn. In the spring, he defended the Chernihiv region as part of the 119 brigade of the territorial defense forces.

At the end of 2022, the unit performed tasks in the Donetsk region.

The circumstances of the death of Oleksandr Matsiyevsky were unknown until a video appeared on social networks that the Russians shot a Ukrainian soldier after saying: “Glory to Ukraine.”

During the exchange, Oleksandr Matsiyevsky's body was returned to Ukraine. The certificate of cause of death states that the man died from a wound as a result of a firearm.
